The new Predators

Since the original Predator film, we’ve known that one Predator can wreak havoc when it comes to earth. But what happens when there’s more than one predator? And oh, did we forget to mention, when the humans are on an alien planet? The plot for Predators is a continuation, and not a remake, of the originals. Now there are two different types of predators: the original predator, and a much larger, stronger predator. Chosen for their impressive killing skills, the human group, including actors/actresses such as Adrien Brody (King Kong), Alice Braga (I am Legend), Walton Goggins (Justified), and Topher Grace (That ’70s Show), have been brought to the predators’ training ground. After losing two of their kind to humans, it seems the predators are looking to improve their hunting skills.Directed by Nimrod Antal (Vacancy) and produced by Robert Rodriguez (Machete) the new Predators is full of gore and hair-raising scenes. Although it was strange to add a new type of predator, the film continues the story well. Rodriguez and Antal recreate the predators’ hunting rituals, heat sensing and camouflage abilities perfectly, and fans will feel the killers are accurately represented. While it’s hard to compete with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brody as Royce is a good second. Royce’s mercenary skills make him a ruthless killer, and he wastes no time in setting traps and taking the predators down. While the other actors present interesting characters, particularly the crazy Noland (Laurence Fishburne), the presence of Topher Grace is questionable. Grace’s character, Edwin, does provide an unsuspecting and twisted conclusion; however, the actor better suits comedic roles, such as That ’70s Show. For staying true to the original predators, and for capturing the suspense and graphic content of the classics, Predators is worth watching. The movie is far better than the AVP: Aliens vs. Predators films, and can easily be considered the best predator movie since Predator 2.
